About me

Hi, I’m Anita.

Përshëndetje · Zdravo · Bună · Živjo · Merhaba

I run this website. I moved to the Balkans in 2017 (Albania, specifically) and I’m a firm believer that this is one of the most unique regions in Europe. The Balkan Peninsula holds so much history and beauty, and it’s often overlooked by people visiting Europe.

zdravo, hello!

Why I started Travelling Balkans

I’ve travelled all over the world since 2011, but when I stepped on Balkan soil it was like nowhere I had been before, and I instantly fell in love.

Starting this website was always a dream of mine. I also run another blog, Anita Hendrieka, where I write about my adventures all over the world and a lot about Albania. It was named the best New Zealand travel blog.

Over the years I’ve had such a response from readers, and tonnes of thank-you messages for bringing more attention to Albania and the wider Balkans.

Making a Balkan website felt like a natural extension of what I already love doing: sharing practical information about a region I fell in love with, and one that doesn’t have much reliable information online.

And so this website was born! Travelling Balkans helps you plan your Balkan adventure, with lots of juicy practical information on the best places to visit, the best food to eat and the must-do experiences.
